Local Smoke: Anchorage, Alaska with Jose Lucero
We're happy to bring you the latest edition of Cowboy Kush’s "Local Smoke" series, which spotlights the intersection of cannabis culture and local landscapes through the eyes of real enthusiasts.
In this installment, the brand travels to the rugged terrain of Anchorage, Alaska, to sit down with Jose Lucero. The conversation explores Jose’s personal history with "herb," dating back to his first experience at fifteen, and delves into how cannabis complements his active, nature-focused lifestyle in the Last Frontier.
Getting to Know Jose
Q: What is your first and last name?
A: Jose Lucero
Q: When did you first start smoking pot?
A: My first time lighting up was at 15, back when I was a sophomore in high school. A few fri
ends invited me to hang after class, and we passed around a homemade can.
Cannabis in the Last Frontier: Staying Grounded in Nature
Q: What is your favorite way to smoke pot?
A: Blunts, or specifically, swisher sweets. There’s something original about breaking it down, spreading it out, and rolling it up. It’s earthy, tactile, and just the right kind of old-school. As someone who feels deeply connected to nature, the whole process feels grounded and real.
Q: What are the strains that you love and/or effects you’re looking for?
A: I prefer something smooth and steady — around 20% THC — enough to keep me calm, clear, and creative without tipping into couch-lock territory. Bonus points if the bud is visually stunning; I’m a visual thinker.
Martial Arts, Blunts, and Better Flower
Q: What is your favorite activity?
A: When I’m not smoking herb, I’m either training in martial arts or skiing down slopes. Both keep me sharp and focused.
Q: Favorite place to smoke?
A: Kincaid Park in Anchorage, Alaska. It’s serene, wild, and absolutely breathtaking — the perfect backdrop for lighting up and letting go.
Q: What is your go-to word for weed?
A: “Dro” or “Herb” — smooth, classic, and always on point.
